In Luke 15, Jesus tells the parable of the lost sheep. Or for today’s purposes, I might call it the parable of the sheep in need. There is one lamb in need and the shepherd leaves the ninety-nine sheep in the wilderness and goes after the one in need until he finds it. Then he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices.
Yes, the ninety-nine sheep were still important and loved, but at that time what mattered most was the sheep in danger, the lamb in need. That’s why we say Black Lives Matter. That is the most pressing need. It is Black Lives that are in danger, that are in need. Saying “all lives matter” is focusing on the ninety-nine. But where is Jesus focusing? On the one in need.
Black Lives Matter!
