The Hiking Hutchisons Head for the Highlands

Our next adventure is about to begin. We leave May 5 for Scotland where we will hike the 96 mile West Highland Way. Click HERE to see a map of the walk. We will be hiking 10 days and taking a couple rest days along the way. We will spend a few days in Glasgow getting over jet lag before we start the hike. The West Highland Way runs from Milngavie, just north of Glasgow to Ft. William. A couple days are spent walking along the banks of bonnie Loch Lomond and a couple of days in the remote highlands. Our shortest day will be 6.5 miles and our longest around 16 miles. After our walk, we will enjoy a few days on the Isle of Skye before flying home in late May.

Like we did last year on our Coast to Coast walk across England, we have hired a company that has made our pub/inn/bed and breakfast reservations each night along the way and has arranged for transport of our bags from one night’s accommodation to the next. That means all we have to carry on the trail are our daypacks with everything we need for the day.

Once again, we will be blogging at this website most days with reports on the day and pictures. If you received this post, you will automatically receive the trip updates. If you know of others who want to follow along invite them to go to www.trustinggrace.com and subscribe.

We have completed our warm up hikes. We even arranged one warm-up hike (pictured above) where it rained the entire day just to get us accustomed to Scotland’s weather. It gave all our raingear a good test. And it all passed the test. So we think we are ready to go. But we also realize we are another year older and it is just a little harder than last year. “Seventy years ain’t got nothun’ on us!” We are trying to make that our motto. We’ll see….

So say a little prayer for us; for no falls, safe travel, and worshiping God in creation. And raise a pint (or a wee dram) to bonnie, bonnie Scotland. Watch for blog updates here and follow along on Coe & Janet’s 2024 West Highland Way.

Happy Hiking,
Coe & Janet
